London Eye

The London Eye is a large Ferris wheel located in central London on the River Thames. It is also nicknamed the Millennium Wheel, it is now known as the Coco-Cola London Eye.

The London Eye is 135m tall and the has a diameter of 120m. in 1999 when the London Eye was built, it was the current tallest Ferris wheel in the world!. Its has now been overtaken by the Star of Nanchang (158m), the Singapore Flyer and finally the current tallest Ferris wheel, the 168m High Roller in Las Vegas NV.

The London Eye features 32 glass ovular, air conditioned pods that are attached to the outer edge of the wheel. The capsules weight around 10 tonnes each and represent one of the London Boroughs each. The capsules have a capacity of 25 and passengers are free to walk around inside. The wheel rotates very slowly and smoothly and take 30 minutes to complete a full rotation. The wheel is never stopped for passengers to board as the rotation rate is so slow it allows plenty of time for people to walk in and out on the ground. The wheel is sometimes stopped to allow disabled passengers to have enough time to enter.
